On Wednesday, November 6, Christina Weyl was at the Russell Janis gallery giving a talk on her recent publication, The Women of Atelier 17: Modernist Printmaking in Midcentury New York. She spoke of women artists who worked between 1940 and 1955 at Modernist printmaking workshop, Atelier 17 in New York City. With a full house and live streaming on Instagram, Christina highlighted the history and the inventiveness of these artists, blazing new aesthetic terrain with their etchings, engravings and woodcuts while developing proto-feminist strategies of collaboration and collective action.
