Michael Gundlach is a potter and instructor working out of Choplet ceramic studio in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Taking on a commission to replicate a Ming dynasty urn, he began posting his practice pieces on Instagram, offering unfinished forms to artist friends to experiment and work the surfaces in their own way. As he brought final shape to the commissioned piece, he threw urns for sixteen painters, illustrators, and ceramicists. Out of this effort grew Your Hands Were Making Artifacts, inspiring a community of artists to work outside their normal practice. In this exhibit, the completed ceramic urns will be accompanied by a work of the artists' choice. Please join us for an opening reception at Russell Janis Thursday, May 23, 6-8pm.
