Shop hats here
Janis Stemmermann has been incorporating the checkerboard pattern in her sculpture and textile design for many years. This use of obsessive patterning is often the first step in visually transforming familiar forms of domestic objects and body adornments. As the contrasting squares envelope the form, assumptions about the once familiar shape are challenged.

We are pleased to offer new groupings of checkerboard ceramic cups, knit mittens and hats. The cups were made by Janis at Fiddlestyx, our new studio based in Sharon, CT. The hats and mittens are hand knit locally in New York City by a beloved craftsperson who has been producing Janis’ designs for over 20 years.

Concurrently, Janis has a solo exhibition, Tree to Tree at Planthouse Gallery through January 17. Stay tuned for the online launch!
