Janis Stemmermann’s sculptures were exhibited as the first part of the Winter Light Installation Series at Russell Janis Projects. This body of early work was made from wood with pattern and text carved then inlaid with pigmented beeswax. For her Winter Light exhibit, Janis took the work out of storage, dormant for 25 years. This provided an opportunity to re-experience the work, to document its interactive nature: inking and pulling prints and reading the text inscribed in three-dimensions, excerpts from writer Jeanette Winterson’s 1987 novel, The Passion.
